چکیده

Branch-and-price is a well established technique for solving large scale integer programming problems. This method combines the standard branch-and-bound framework of solving integer programming problems with Column Generation. In each node of the branch-and-bound tree, the bound is calculated by solving the LP relaxation. The LP relaxation is solved using Column Generation. In this report, we discuss our project on improving the performance of branch-and-price based algorithms for solving the industrial one-dimensional cutting stock problem. In the early part our project, we studied several branch-and-price based algorithms that are available in the literature for solving the cutting stock problem. We write down our findings from the study in this report. In the later part of the project, we worked on a few ideas to improve the performance of the algorithms. We publish the results in the report. We conclude the report by giving some directions for future works.

Solving an one-dimensional cutting stock problem by simulated annealing and tabu search

A cutting stock problem is one of the main and classical problems in operations research that is modeled as Lp < /div> problem. Because of its NP-hard nature, finding an optimal solution in reasonable time is extremely difficult and at least non-economical. In this paper, two meta-heuristic algorithms, namely simulated annealing (SA) and tabu search (TS), are proposed and deve...

Branch-and-Price Algorithms for the One-Dimensional Cutting Stock Problem

We compare two branch-and-price approaches for the cutting stock problem. Each algorithm is based on a different integer programming formulation of the column generation master problem. One formulation results in a master problem with 0–1 integer variables while the other has general integer variables. Both algorithms employ column generation for solving LP relaxations at each node of a branch-...

An ACO algorithm for one-dimensional cutting stock problem

The one-dimensional cutting stock problem, has so many applications in lots of industrial processes and during the past few years has attracted so many researchers’ attention all over the world. In this paper a meta-heuristic method based on ACO is presented to solve this problem. In this algorithm, based on designed probabilistic laws, artificial ants do select various cuts and then select the...

The trim loss concentration in one-dimensional cutting stock problem (1D-CSP) by defining a virtual cost

Nowadays, One-Dimensional Cutting Stock Problem (1D-CSP) is used in many industrial processes and re-cently has been considered as one of the most important research topic. In this paper, a metaheuristic algo-rithm based on the Simulated Annealing (SA) method is represented to minimize the trim loss and also to fo-cus the trim loss on the minimum number of large objects. In this method, the 1D-...

Solving the Assortment and Trim Loss Problem with Branch-and-Price-and-Cut

In this paper, we address the combined assortment and trim loss minimization problem. In real settings, when different stock lengths are available, a common problem is to select a subset of stock lengths from which to cut the ordered items. In the cutting and packing literature, this problem is known as the assortment problem. Solving the assortment and trim loss minimization problem in a singl...
